Even though the storm appears to be heading east of our area, Escambia County leaders still want to make sure residents are prepared
. It has released a list of several locations that are offering sandbags.Brent Athletic Park - 4711 N. W St., PensacolaEscambia County Road Department - 601 Highway 297-A, Pensacola
Ferry Pass Middle School - 8355 Yancey Lane, Pensacola Travis M. Nelson Park - 4541 County Road 4, PensacolaThere are other ways to prepare too. We caught up with a new Florida resident who says she’s getting ready just in case. “I have my important papers. I have three dogs. They’re all ready to go. I have food. I have a gas stove so if the electricity does go out, at least I have my gas. I have a generator. I have my flashlights and my batteries. And that’s all I really know because I haven’t experienced anything yet. And if all else fails, I have a minivan so I can leave the state,” Christine McElhaney said.
And even though the track does not have Escambia County in its direct path, it’s a great time to prepare for the future and carve out a plan. “What I would tell people is if you have a neighborhood watch in our area, please use those people. They can come from the county. They can come from emergency management. The sheriff can come. Anybody can come and give you this list to help you prepare should there be a natural disaster,” McElhaney said.
