SAN MATEO — A Kentucky man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon after he repeatedly rammed into another car in the early hours of Sunday because he was upset the other driver turned on his high-beam lights, according to a press release from the San Mateo Police Department.East Bay man arrested in attempted break-in at SLAC accelerator lab
Around 3:49 a.m., San Mateo police officers responded to reports of a hit-and-run collision in the area of Pacific Boulevard and Laurie Meadows Drive. Meanwhile, officers from the Belmont Police Department engaged in a short vehicle pursuit of the possible suspect, authorities said. The suspect yielded to officers on 43rd Avenue in San Mateo.
The suspect, 62, told officers that he had been driving northbound on Pacific Boulevard when someone driving southbound passed him with their high beam lights on, authorities said. The lights upset the suspect because of the “brightness and potential radiation,” officers added. The suspect decided to ram into the vehicle, then ram into it again when the vehicle stopped, officers added. He then fled the scene. He evaded the Belmont Police Department officers because he believed people with nefarious intentions sometimes impersonate police, he told authorities.
