Tenants are reacting after a "criminal trespass" operation at a San Marcos apartment complex which led to two unrelated arrests and numerous orders for tenants to evacuate due to unsafe living conditions.
"Candles left burning, phones left plugged in - things of that nature where people had very much recently been there,” Williams said. After dozens of resident complaints since January, San Marcos code enforcement and the Fire Marshal's Office served the complex back in August, vacating dozens of units due to gas leaks, fire hazards, lack of hot water, and even sewage backup."That was a concern for us. That now we have a lot of overlap," Williams said. "Now code has been trying to deal with this, the fire marshals have been trying to deal with this. Now law enforcement is getting more and more calls there.
As a result, multiple fines have been issued, and if continues like this, not even condemnation of the property is off the table.
