San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora announced that the city of San Juan has successfully weathered the first day of the week-long nationwide transportation strike spearheaded by several groups against the national government’s public utility vehicle modernization program.
“After a thorough assessment by the City Government, I can state that the overall situation was peaceful and orderly,” he said. According to the mayor, of the seven major routes within the city’s jurisdiction, only two routes saw a slight reduction in the number of jeepneys operating on Monday. These are the San Juan – Cubao and San Juan – Divisoria routes with members of the Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association participating in the strike.
Zamora thanked city government workers, including barangay personnel, who did everything they could to prepare for the transport strike.
