Hoover Middle School eighth-graders learned about the science and technology behind ice hockey on a field trip to SAP Center.
During Women’s History Month, the three women on the STEM Day panel at SAP Center on Tuesday all shared something they had in common with their audience of 150 eighth-graders from Hoover Middle School in San Jose: When they were in middle school, they weren’t thinking too much about careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics either.

STEM Day hosted by the San Jose Sharks offered more than 150 8th grade students the opportunity to learn how science, technology, engineering, and math relate to the sport of ice hockey.
Interesting and fun, too. The students got to try their hand at four stations on the SAP Center ice, where they learned about using angles to make bank shots into a goal, how friction changes the movement of the puck on choppy ice and what the science is behind a Zamboni.
