San Jose Sharks’ David Quinn on Mario Ferraro: “I think he’ll be back sooner than probably we thought a couple of days ago.”
SAN JOSE – Mario Ferraro’s lower-body injury is not as serious as first feared and Sharks coach David Quinn said Sunday he is hopeful the heavy-minute defenseman can return soon, although no specific timetable was immediately available.
Ferraro was placed on injured reserve Saturday and has to remain inactive for at least a week, meaning he cannot play Sunday against Vancouver or in Sharks road games on Tuesday and Wednesday against Montreal and Toronto, respectively.Quinn said Ferraro, who blocked four shots for the Sharks in their 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Friday, arrived at SAP Center on Sunday afternoon to get reevaluated and added he would know more about the player’s health after the game against the Canucks.
“I don’t think it’s too serious. I think he’ll be back sooner than probably we thought a couple of days ago,” Quinn said. “We’re still in the evaluation process, believe it or not, but it doesn’t look as bad as we originally thought. Hopefully, he’ll be back sooner than later.” The Sharks recalled Scott Harrington for the AHL’s Barracuda on Sunday but rookie Nick Cicek will take Ferraro’s spot in the lineup against Vancouver. Cicek has played in five games for the Sharks this month, averaging just over 15 minutes of ice time per game.
Goalie Kaapo Kahkonen will start Sunday as James Reimer is hurt and unavailable. Aaron Dell, recalled Saturday, will back up Kahkonen. Reimer’s injury is not considered serious and he is expected to join the Sharks for their road trip next week.Related Articles
