“Apologies for the mix up, we’re still happy to get these guns off our streets,” the department said in a follow-up tweet
The San Jose Police Department retracted a tweet on Sunday after misidentifying two Glock pistols as ghost guns that were seized by officers during a traffic stop.
In the now-deleted tweet, the police department posted photos of the firearms with the brand and serial number displayed. Ghost guns, which can be bought online and are assembled as a kit, do not have serial numbers and are as a result untraceable. The pistols were found along with a bottle of tequila, ammunition, a travel-size scale, marijuana and a pile of cash.
In a statement, police spokesperson Sergeant Christian Camarillo took responsibility for the tweet, saying that the two guns had serial numbers but were not registered. In a followup tweet, the department clarified its mistake.
