The man was ejected from the bike during the crash, police said.
SAN JOSE — A motorcyclist died in a traffic collision Sunday afternoon after hitting a truck and a guardrail on Interstate 880, according to California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at about 11:57 a.m. in the area of southbound I-880 just north of the East Brokaw Road on-ramp, said CHP Officer Ross Lee. A 33-year-old Gilroy man was operating at 2005 Suzuki motorcycle and crashed into the back of a Ford F150. The man was believed to have been driving “at a high rate of speed” and “erratically” in between lanes of traffic, Lee said. After crashing into the back of the truck, the man continued into the right shoulder, collided with a guardrail and was ejected from the bike, sustaining fatal injuries.
The motorcyclist died at the scene, police said. The driver of the truck wasn’t injured in the accident. Authorities don’t know if the motorcyclist was impaired during the collision. Several lanes were closed during the investigation, but Lee said he doesn’t believe there was any major traffic back-up as a result.
