Police say a group attacked the man at his San Jose home, with one assailant striking him in the face with a gun.

player ready... A San Jose man was arrested last week on suspicion of taking part in a gang-related attack in which a group assaulted a man at his home and one assailant struck him in the face with a gun, police said Monday.

Officers began investigating after responding around 11:30 p.m. April 25 to a hospital, where a man was being treated for serious facial injuries, according to the San Jose Police Department. Investigators determined that a group of men had attacked him at his San Jose home and that one of them struck him in the face with the handle of a firearm, police said.

Authorities characterized the assault as gang-related but did not disclose what prompted the attack or explain the suspected gang connection. Detectives identified Stevenson Tuimavave as the primary suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest and a search of his home, police said. Officers arrested Tuimavave on July 15 in San Jose. During the search, detectives found two firearms, ammunition, what police described as gang-related items and illegal fireworks, according to the department.

The department did not say whether either firearm had been used in the April attack. Tuimavave was booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of gang-related assault with a deadly weapon. Police did not disclose whether prosecutors have filed charges. Anyone with information may contact San Jose police Detectives Minkel at 5003@sanjoseca.gov or Garcia at 5026@sanjoseca.gov, or call the Gang Investigations Unit at 408-277-3835.
