Winless team, unhappy coach could lead to departure any day now

For two weeks in a row, the usually-gregarious Quakes coach has skipped midweek and postgame press conferences, choosing to pay the league’s small fines rather than face questions about the worst start in team history, or respond to reports that he wants to leave the team.

But Almeyda never has seemed fully comfortable, or committed, in San Jose. Each season has brought rumors of Almeyda being linked to Liga MX clubs or national teams, most recently Chile, speculation that intensified recently when the Chivas job re-opened. In the early part of Almeyda’s time with the Quakes, the team made up for those mistakes with enough offense to remain competitive. This season, the team has scored in open play just once in its seven games. Still, Alemyda hasn’t done much to shake up the lineup except when players are injured.
