Taqueria Zorro in North Beach is offering a reward of a month's worth of free meals to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of the intruders who burglarized their establishment. Surveillance footage captured the brazen robbery, where a group wielding weapons stole an ATM and two safes.
A San Francisco taqueria is offering a month of free meals to anyone who provides tips leading to the arrest of burglars who ransacked the establishment. Surveillance footage captured a man using bolt cutters to breach the entrance of Taqueria Zorro on Broadway and Columbus Avenue before dawn on Tuesday. Within moments, a group entered and swiftly removed an ATM. 'You could tell, when they got the ATM, they were happy and they were ready to leave,' said owner Tarik Kassis.
However, their operation wasn't over. Armed with weapons, they descended into the basement. 'They're like a little SWAT team, you know? They're a crew, this is how they operate,' Kassis stated. 'There were guns drawn, they were clearing the area, and they were bringing more guys, they were going back to the car and getting tools.' They then broke into an office and stole two safes, dragging them out of the taqueria and into a Honda Odyssey.Kassis made it clear that anyone with information leading to the arrests will be generously rewarded. 'We're happy to give you guys lunch for a whole month. Come in every day, bring a friend,' he offered. When asked if this offer would extend to the burglars themselves, implying a possibility of redemption through a meal, Kassis replied, 'Yeah - it's never too late for some redemption.' Thankfully, a witness promptly called the San Francisco Police Department. Officers arrived within a minute of the call, but the intruders had already vanished. 'It's frustrating. It's scary, you know? I'm glad that my employees were not here. They're usually here 22 to 23 hours a day,' Kassis expressed his relief. The taqueria, known for its daily operation and catering services, sustained a significant blow. 'It felt like a surgical operation. They threaded the needle, they must have been scoping the place out,' Kassis noted the meticulous planning behind the heist. The following day, several officers visited the taqueria, offering support and sharing a meal. Kassis emphasized the need for stronger action from city officials, particularly concerning property crimes that are often overlooked. 'I want people to realize that these non-violent crimes that the city doesn't want to prosecute, or go after, will turn violent in a heartbeat, if someone's in their way,' he warned. Oscar Tijero, an employee at a nearby hotel, assisted with boarding up Taqueria Zorro, expressing his concern over the escalating crime in the area. ' I think it's really bad for this area,' Tijero commented. 'It's something that I've seen happen not just here, couple of other places. You know, no one's ever held accountable.
