San Francisco will experience two storm systems this week, potentially bringing up to three inches of rain before the weekend. The storms are causing flash flood concerns, but skies are expected to clear in time for the NBA All-Star Game and the Lunar New Year Parade.

After a substantial midweek storm, San Francisco skies are expected to clear up just in time for The City to host some of its biggest events of the year.

Crystal Oudit, an NWS meteorologist, told The Examiner that this week’s storm systems have triggered flash-flooding concerns for The City, particularly due to the wet weather a storm system that arrived at the end of January brought as it carried into early February. According to preliminary NWS data, that system broke a daily rainfall record for downtown San Francisco.

NWS meteorologists added that, unlike the most recent showers, the Bay Area will see “more of an even distribution” in terms of precipitation. While the most significant rainfall from last week’s storms was primarily concentrated in the North Bay, weather experts said this week’s systems have “high rain amounts going all the way down to Big Sur in Monterey County.”

Idil Bereket, a communications manager for the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, said in a statement that crews “are working around the clock” to clear storm drains and handle other related requests.
