The death toll rose to four in a shooting rampage Thursday in the San Fernando Valley as authorities detained a potential suspect in the violence. Authorities closed off several sections of the Valley as police swarmed the area.
A 26-year-old man suspected in a series of shootings that killed four people and wounded two others was arrested Thursday afternoon following an intense hours-long manhunt across the San Fernando Valley, police said.Zaragoza was linked to two fatal shootings earlier Thursday, and police had deployed a huge force of tactical officers to locate him when a third shooting occurred. Authorities say Zaragoza opened fire about 1 p.m.
“We are asking the public to be vigilant and be on the lookout for the man whose photos we released,” Rodriguez said. “He is armed and dangerous, call the police immediately if you see him.”Police say Zaragoza’s rampage began hours earlier — shortly before 2 a.m. — when he gunned down his family inside an apartment in the 21900 block of Roscoe Boulevard near Topanga Canyon Boulevard in Canoga Park.
When police arrived, they found a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. The woman, who has not been identified, died at a hospital. The man remains in critical condition.
