This year’s theme is “Making Ripples,” demonstrates how just one person can inspire others to keep our coastlines clean. Ella Basel loves spending time near the ocean. But a few years ago, she noticed plastic washing up ashore or being littered about during frequent trips to the beach with her family.

For her commitment to the environment, Ella has been named the first youth ambassador for Kids Ocean Day LA, an environmental awareness campaign. More than 3,000 children from across Los Angeles county schools assembled to celebrate the 29th Annual KIDS OCEAN DAY Clean-Up at Dockweiler State Beach in Playa Del Rey on Thursday, May 23, 2024. This year’s theme is “Making Ripples,” demonstrates how just one person can inspire others to keep our coastlines clean.

Lots of smiles as more than 3,000 children from across Los Angeles county schools gathered for the 29th Annual KIDS OCEAN DAY Clean-Up at Dockweiler State Beach and human art display in Playa Del Rey on Thursday, May 23, 2024. This year’s theme is “Making Ripples,” demonstrates how just one person can inspire others to keep our coastlines clean.

“We are honored to make that kind of impact on a child because we know that creating environmental change can start with just one person,” Klubock said. For Ella, being named a youth ambassador “means having fun with people and … getting them to support the ocean as well.”
