Districts around California are pursuing the idea of building rent-restricted housing to help hire and retain employees amid a worsening housing crisis.
The LIVIA at Scripps Ranch apartments are the first fruits of San Diego Unified School District’s real estate strategy to partner with developers to use its spare land, and build rent-restricted homes for employees. Now the district is weighing recommendations of such development at another five sites.
