A pump station failure in San Diego County's South Bay sent an estimated 30,000 gallons of sewage into the ocean, prompting concerns about public health. Officials are calling for a state of emergency to address the ongoing issue of trans-border sewage flows from Tijuana, Mexico.
The pump station at Hollister Street in San Diego County's South Bay failed this week, sending thousands of gallons of water and sewage into the nearby ocean.
Due to the Hollister Street pump station failure, both Goats Canyon and Smugglers Gulch Canyon collectors are out of operation and experiencing trans-border flow. South Bay residents and elected officials are concerned about the health impacts of sewage spilling into the area.
