A look at San Diego high school athletes of the week
Torrey Pines High School’s Sophie Bryson, battling for position against Scripps Ranch’s Captain, Ava Schramm, during the Laurie Berger Invitational Tournament final played at Canyon Hills High School. The senior midfielder helped bottle up Torrey Pines’ offense on the way to a 3-0 win in the Laurie Berger Invitational final; she was named Most Valuable Player of the prestigious tournament.
The Sultans sophomore was the only girl to break the 18-minute barrier at the 44th Mt. Carmel Invitational, clocking a time of 17:54.3.The freshman quarterback was almost perfect, completing 19 of 20 passes for 355 yards and two touchdowns as the Cardinals improved to 3-2 on the season with a 41-10 win over San Ysidro.A junior captain, Christie scored the winning goal in the shootout victory over Scripps Ranch in pool play of the Laurie Berger Invitational.
