He had watched a lot of Padres games last season while in rehab, and he was surprised to learn another Opening Day was just around the corner.“If there’s room, yeah,” said James.

On 17th Street near the corner of Imperial Avenue in East Village, San Diego police officers tell people they must clear the area. It was big news seven years ago when San Diego installed jagged rocks along a freeway underpass not far from the ballpark. A city spokesperson initially said the project was at the request of neighbors, butthe principal reason was to drive out the homeless ahead of baseball’s All Star Game.
