The San Diego Mojo’s offseason roster overhaul hit full stride on Monday, when the club announced it has signed Cuban outside hitter Rosir Calderon for the 2025 season. Calderon, 39, has played volleyball professionally for the last 13 years, most recently for AEK Athens V.
C. in Greece. Before that, she suited up for teams in Turkey, Indonesia, France, Switzerland, China, Russia and Cuba.She led Cuba to an Olympic bronze medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. Four years later, Calderon was named best spiker as the Cubans finished fourth at the Beijing Olympics. Calderon’s father, Luis, played for Cuba in the 1972 Olympics in Munich, and coached his daughter in both the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games. Her mother, Erenia Diaz, played for Cuba at the 1980 Olympics held in Moscow. Mojo coach Tayyiba Haneef-Park said Calderon brings “an unparalleled level of leadership, experience, and a winning mentality to our team.” The Mojo advanced to the Pro Volleyball Federation semifinals in their first season.
