Free veterinary care and food was provided to homeless people by the ElleVet Project at the Neal Good Day Center on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 in San Diego, CA. A prominent San Diego homeless shelter has agreed to pay tens of thousands of dollars to a man who said he was wrongly blocked from living with his emotional support cat and allegedly told to provide unnecessary documentation for a service dog.
The six-page agreement, which the agency announced Thursday, did not require the Rescue Mission to admit any wrongdoing. The man had asked to live with a cat and dog and “provided a copy of a letter from his medical provider to support the request,” according to a press release from the civil rights office. Instead, he was allegedly asked to give proof of the dog’s service training, which investigators said is not required under California law, and learned that emotional support animals weren’t accepted at all.
