Anisa Bowen-Fontenot finishes first in 100, 300 hurdles, Armira Shaheed wins the 100 and 200 yard dashes, earn spots at state meet in Clovis
A year ago, San Diego High freshman Anisa Bowen-Fontenot watched as Aaliyah McCormick of Scripps Ranch and teammate Charlize James dominated the section and state meet 100-meter hurdles. It turns out that 2023 is indeed her year. Bowen-Fontenot qualified first in the 100-meter hurdles in a wind-legal 13.92-seconds and 300-meter hurdles in 42.12 at Saturday’s CIF-San Diego Section championships at Mt. Carmel High.
“I really didn’t think I could catch the leaders but then I saw slow down and I thought maybe I had enough left to catch them,” said Dailey. “With 200 meters to go, I caught them and then with 100 meters left I got the lead. Then I worried someone would catch me.” But that race, as it has the last two years, belonged to Buswell. She took 3 seconds off her previous best, winning in 2:08.30, the third-fastest time in section history.
Bowen-Fontenot ran the fourth-fastest 100-meter hurdle time in section history with the time of 13.92 seconds.
