Two San Diego County restaurants lost their Michelin honors at Monday night’s unveiling, and no new local stars were awarded this year

It is the only restaurant in San Diego County that was honored with a new award in 2024. San Diego came up empty on Monday night at the Michelin Guide’s 2024 California award ceremony, where new Michelin stars were handed out to 10 restaurants in the Los Angeles and Bay areas.
Sushi Tadokoro in Old Town was awarded a star in 2021. It was renewed in 2022 and 2023, but not this year. And Solare Ristorante at Liberty Station, one of 10 local restaurants with Bib Gourmands — Michelin’s second-tier award, honoring high-quality food at moderate prices — was also dropped from this year’s list.in San Diego’s Carmel Valley retained its crown as Southern California’s only Michelin three-star restaurant.
The Michelin Guide was established in France in 1920 to encourage car owners to take road trips to recommended hotels. Starred restaurants, rated by mystery inspectors, were added to the guide in 1926. The first North American guide was published in New York City in 2005, and the Guide came to San Francisco and Los Angeles three years later.
Many San Diego restaurants recognized since 2019 as Michelin Guide Selections have been dropped from the guide completely, including Crack Shack, Cowboy Star, Lucha Libre Taco Shop, Las Cuatro Milpas, Milles Fleurs, Nolita Hall, Oscar’s Mexican Seafood, Puesto, Tacos El Gordo, the Taco Stand, Tuetano Taqueria, Spicy City and Salud Tacos .
