The county is experiencing a moderate drought as it approaches the time of year when the Santa Anas begin

For the second straight year, San Diego finished the rainy season with below average precipitation, which has made grasslands and chaparral exceptionally dry and prone to wildfires, says the National Weather Service. For the season that just ended, San Diego International Airport recorded 6.75 inches of precipitation, which is 3.04 inches below normal. The previous year, the airport got 5.24 inches, which is 4.55 inches below normal. And the year before that, the airport got 13.

San Diego County is experiencing a moderate drought as it heads into the Santa Ana wind season, which typically begins in October. There are no Santa Anas in the forecast for the next 7 to 10 days.
