In increasingly convincing scams, con artists tricking people with threats of arrest to get them to fork over money orders as fines for missed jury duty
People coming and going at the San Diego Superior Court’s Central Courthouse in downtown San Diego on Monday. A telephone scam has been circulating in which callers threaten arrests or fines for people missing jury duty, San Diego Superior Court officials warned Wednesday.
Some victims have been told they must get money orders or cash and then meet a “court clerk” at or near a specific county courthouse in order to pay the outstanding warrant fine.
