A winter storm slammed the San Bernardino Mountains with heavy snow on Sunday, prompting a winter storm warning for the region. The warning remains in effect until Monday afternoon, with significant snowfall expected. Driving conditions are hazardous and the CHP urges residents to avoid travel if possible.
Sunday, January 26, 2025 saw the San Bernardino Mountains hit by a heavy snowfall, as the region remains under a winter storm warning. The warning is expected to last until 4 p.m. Monday and affects areas including Crestline, Wrightwood, Idyllwild-Pine Cove, Lake Arrowhead, Running Springs, Big Bear City, and Big Bear Lake. Forecasters predict up to a foot of snow at elevations above 5,000 feet, with a couple of inches anticipated in lower elevations.
These conditions presented a significant challenge for drivers throughout the region. Road crews were observed working throughout the night to clear roadways, but the conditions persisted, impacting a section of Highway 18 between Crestline and Big Bear. The National Weather Service issued a warning that driving this weekend could be 'very difficult to impossible,' advising that these hazardous conditions could disrupt the Monday morning commute. The California Highway Patrol is strongly urging residents to avoid traveling on the roads until at least Monday afternoon, if possible
