San Antonio Zoo has unveiled its newly expanded savanna habitat, named the Naylor Savanna, thanks to a $3 million gift from devoted philanthropist Susan Naylor. The grand opening is scheduled for October 4th and will feature twice the space for giraffes and rhinos, three times more room for other savanna species, and a state-of-the-art giraffe barn.
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio Zoo announced on Tuesday of a transformative gift of $3 million from Susan Naylor, a devoted philanthropist and esteemed zoo board member.
Susan Naylor, whose heart is deeply connected to both San Antonio Zoo and the African continent, shared her inspiration for this gift: "Both San Antonio Zoo and Africa have always held a special place in my heart. I spent a lot of time with my boys, Will and Charlie, in Africa enjoying wildlife, and we all wanted that same experience for the children of San Antonio. I am now blessed to be able to make this experience at the zoo bigger, better, and world-class in honor of my family.
One of the standout features of the Naylor Savanna is the state-of-the-art giraffe barn. This new facility will not only provide exceptional viewing opportunities—even when the giraffes are indoors—but also include individual giraffe rooms, a large family room, a VIP encounter area, and expansive viewing windows. This upgrade will enable the zoo to grow its giraffe herd and offer an even richer experience for visitors.
"We are thrilled to invite everyone to experience the awe-inspiring Naylor Savanna, a unique and transformative expansion that showcases our dedication to wildlife conservation and education,"
