The zoo is working closely with local law enforcement agencies to beef up security.
The San Antonio Zoo is increasing it's security efforts following the mysterious animal disappearances at the Dallas Zoo in recent weeks.Following a series of mysterious incidents at the Dallas Zoo, which included the kidnapping of two emperor tamarin monkeys, the San Antonio Zoo said it’s taking extra precautions to tighten security.
“What we have done since the incidents have begun is refocus our efforts and go through where our weak spots are and what we could be doing better to prevent this from happening” here, San Antonio Zoo CEO Tim Morrow said. The disappearance of the monkeys was the culmination of a series of strange incidents at the Dallas zoo in recent weeks. In January, a clouded leopard escaped her enclosure through a cut in its fencing, and an endangered vulture was found dead with an unusual wound.
Police arrested 24-year-old Davion Irvin late last week in connection with the disappearance of the monkeys. He has since been charged with six counts of animal cruelty and two counts of burglary. Irvin said he would return to the zoo to steal more animals if he were released, according to an
