Prepare for a week of extreme weather fluctuations in San Antonio, featuring rain, thunderstorms, and possible wintry mix. Temperatures will oscillate dramatically, with highs in the 70s and 80s followed by a sharp drop into the 50s. Stay tuned for updates on the potential for icy conditions in the Hill Country.

SAN ANTONIO - Buckle up! The next 7 days will be a wild roller coaster ride for San Antonio's weather, featuring huge temperature swings, showers, thunderstorms, and maybe even a little wintry mix of ice before the week is done. This week has started cloudy and very cool in the 50s with sprinkles and a few showers. We'll continue to see this trend through the evening and overnight forecast. In fact, the coverage of scattered showers may increase late evening into the overnight.

Tuesday has the highest rain chance in the morning followed by a lower chance through the afternoon. We then see the rain chance increase late evening Tuesday ahead of a potent upper air disturbance. Temperatures Tuesday will feature a big range across our region with San Antonio likely stuck under a cool puddle of 50s to around 60 degrees and cloudy skies. Areas to the west or south could bust into the 60s to low 70s. Scattered thunderstorms enter the forecast late evening Tuesday through very early Wednesday. While severe parameters are not terribly impressive, a couple of storms with small hail would be possible in our area (pea to penny size). These storms would also drop locally heavy rain. If you see one pass through your area, you could easily see 1' or more of rain. Total rainfall through this week will range from .50' to 1'+. Our western zone counties and way down south, rainfall from .10' to .50' is expected. These storms move out Wednesday morning for very warm sunshine in the afternoon. Temperatures in the 70s and 80s will be widespread in the area. But don't get too used to these temperatures. Already by Wednesday night we watch a strong cold front move across with a big drop in temperatures Thursday. Morning lows Thursday could see a light freeze in the Hill Country with everyone else above freezing. Of note, some computer models are sneaking in a little wintry mix of rain with sleet or even a spot of light freezing rain into the Hill Country. I'm not 100% sold on this just yet but it is worth watching. Temperatures Thursday then struggle to get back to 50 degrees followed by a cool Valentine's Day in the 50s then another wild temperature swing over the weekend ahead
