San Antonio broke the May 22 record for warmest low temperature, and new high temperature records will likely be set by the weekend.
On Wednesday morning, the low temperature in San Antonio bottomed out at 79 degrees. That is 11 degrees above average for late May, and it set a new record for warmest low temperature ever recorded on May 22. The muggy morning came courtesy of a strong system of high atmospheric pressure centered in northern Mexico . The system is positioned in such a way that high moisture levels from the Gulf of Mexico being directed straight into San Antonio .
Afternoon high temperatures are expected to continue rising, reaching 96 to 98 degrees in San Antonio. There’s an outside chance of reaching the daily record high of 99 degrees, if skies clear fast enough in the morning. That record was set back in 2008. Even though highs will likely stay under 100 degrees, the heat index will be far above the century mark. Thanks to the humidity, temps will feel like 103 to 107 degrees in the San Antonio metro area for much of the afternoon and early evening.
