Zach, Tyler and Luke Zigmond might look alike, but each made a distinct mark at East Central High School.

There has always been one sure-fire way to tell the Zigmond triplets apart. Since childhood, the boys dressed in different colors: Zach in blue, Tyler in green and Luke in red. At 18, they still color-code themselves. Even today, when they cross the Alamodome stage to receive their East Central High School diplomas, their black gowns won’t quite conceal three pairs of Converse sneakers in their respective hues. “It started when we were really young,” said Zach , the oldest by two minutes.

lot at stake:’ To compete, San Antonio neighborhood schools focus on careers, culture and college The soon-to-be East Central graduates carved their own paths, making the Zigmond name known in everything from athletics to theater to cooking. Sure, they looked alike, but the brothers’ similarity shone through in how they embraced these pursuits. Now, they’re on paths to different universities.

As other districts close schools, East Central and Southwest ISDs confront growth, build new ones The Zigmonds have found distinct social circles through their hobbies but between them they know virtually everybody on campus, they said. “I feel like we became more popular around school because everyone is always like, ‘Oh, I know your brother,’” Zach said. It’s one of the best parts of being a triplet, Tyler said, bringing together people from varied backgrounds.

Massive development set for 2,000 acres on San Antonio’s Southeast Side In the fall, Tyler will move into a dorm at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, where he will study international business. His brothers will commute from home, Luke to the University of Texas at San Antonio for mechanical engineering and Zach to Northwest Vista College for two years before transferring to Texas State University in San Marcos as a communications major. It is a turning point.
