The recently completed two-bedroom, one-bath house in Terrell Hills has 563 square feet of living space, including a loft.
When COVID-19 struck, Karin Scott and Don Dougherty were between houses and found themselves living in a garage apartment. The situation helped them realize they like living in a smaller space, which led them to build what these days is known as a “tiny house” in Terrell Hills . “We found living in the apartment to be liberating,” said Scott , owner and principal architect of the firm Architect Girl .
What it is, how to find it and where to buy it “We could have built a typical 1,500 to 1,600-square foot home for what we spent on this one,” Scott said. For example, instead of a traditional swinging front door, they opted for a sliding glass door instead with a screen they like to keep open on nice days. The living area has oversized windows and there’s a vaulted ceiling. “The whole idea was to make this small space feel bigger by adding plenty of volume and the light,” she said.
