A broad system of high atmospheric pressure in the southeastern U.S. could influence South Texas weather and Hurricane Beryl's path.

While Texas residents keep a close eye on Hurricane Beryl spinning through the Caribbean Sea , we are still dealing with the extreme heat of summer in San Antonio . A broad system of high atmospheric pressure, capable of producing what we’ve come to know as a heat dome, is moving toward the Southeastern United States. A heat dome is basically high pressure acting like a pot lid, trapping rising warm air and denying water vapor a chance to rise into the atmosphere enough to produce storm clouds.

A slow-moving front will travel south into Central Texas, bringing some additional clouds that may kick off a few showers and thunderstorms late Friday into Saturday. If we are lucky, some of these storms could put down a healthy amount of rain. “While coverage will be quite low, slow storm cell motions could mean an isolated spot or town could get heavy rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches,” the National Weather Service said in a forecast Monday.
