The San Antonio Spurs will be without the face of their franchise for the foreseeable future. Head coach Gregg Popovich, 75, will not join the team on its upcoming two-game road trip after he missed the Spurs' Nov. 2 home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to an undisclosed illness, according to The Associated Press. Assistant coach Mitch Johnson filled in for Popovich over the weekend and will remain the coach in the meantime.

” Johnson has filled in for Popovich two other times, while former assistant coaches Tim Duncan and Becky Hammon have also stepped in in recent years while Popovich dealt with health issues. The Spurs next play Nov. 4 at the Los Angeles Clippers before visiting the Houston Rockets on Nov. 6. They will then begin a five-game homestand with a tilt against the Portland Trail Blazers on Nov. 7.
