SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio was ranked just inside the top 80 for "Safest Cities in America".Each city was measure by three categories: Home and Community Safety, Natural-Disaster Risk, and Financial Safety, in which San Antonio ranked 98th, 73rd, and 87th.
Multiple experts were asked to identify problems found in most American cities, while also providing ways to improve public safety."The rise in crime is a concern throughout the country. Unfortunately, the cops can’t “arrest” our way out of this problem. The judicial system needs work, and nothing will get accomplished until a solution involves all members of public service and the public.
Associate Professor of Homeland Security and Emergency at Idaho State University, Laurie J. Holien, was asked what steps local authorities could take to help reduce the public costs associated with clean-ups after major natural disasters. It may surprise many residents and local officials, but the best way to save money on disaster clean-up costs is to mitigate the damage upfront BEFORE it happens," Holien said, "This could involve creating defensive space around structures prone to wildfires, creating berms to improve drainage and resilience to flooding, and reinforcing buildings and infrastructure to sustain earthquake shakes.
San Antonio did rank noticeably higher than other notable Texas cities including, Amarillo , Austin , Houston , and Dallas . The city was outranked by five Texas cities: Plano , Irving , Grand Prairie , Brownsville , and Laredo .
