Northside Independent School District has declared Nov. 8 a student holiday to accommodate voters on Election Day without risking student safety.
Bexar County Elections Administrator Jacque Callanen said she’s planning a larger number of early voting sites for the Nov. 8 election. Early voting will run from Oct. 24 to Nov. 4.
After the May 24 Uvalde shooting at Robb Elementary School, many schools have indicated they don’t want voters on campus on Election Day. The reluctance to participate as polling sites out of heightened security concerns has affected Election Day planning. Bexar County commissioners supported a plan Tuesday that will emphasize access to early voting sites in what is being forecast as a high-turnout electon.Callanen said she’s planning for up to 45 sites countywide that will be in operation for early voting from Oct. 24 to Nov. 4. Since about two-thirds of voters cast early ballots, the county is considering a larger number, above the normal 32-42 that have operated in the past, as part of a projected $2,285,000 budget for the general election.
