As the story goes, Isidro’s family did not approve of his romance with the Asian woman, so the couple met in secret at the family’s cemetery. While racing to their secret rendezvous, Isidro and his horse were struck by lightning. Isidro’s intended killed herself at his plot to join him in death and has haunted the grounds ever since.
Alleged evidence of such souls includes cold spots, flickering lights, and the apparitions of a frowning man outside a second-story window and a beautiful woman in an upstairs bedroom. The Menger Hotel is said to be haunted by at least three notable ghosts, which include former president Teddy Roosevelt, murdered chambermaid Sallie White and King Ranch founder Richard King.6. As for Teddy Roosevelt, his spirt is said to haunt the Menger bar where he rustled up his famous Rough Riders in 1898 to fight in the Spanish-American War. Roosevelt died at his home in Cove Neck, N.Y., in 1919.
