The company has rolled out a new franchise program to help fuel its growth beyond Texas and New Mexico.

As it seeks to expand its footprint beyond Texas and New Mexico , Taco Cabana is rolling out a new franchise program to push its brand into Arizona , Arkansas , Colorado , Missouri , Oklahoma and Tennessee . The San Antonio -based restaurant chain is looking for franchisees to fuel its growth three years after being acquired by an affiliate of Yadav Enterprises Inc. , a major franchisee of Jack in the Box, Denny’s and TGI Friday’s restaurants among other brands.

Taco Cabana eyes national expansion as it plans to restart franchising Taco Cabana operates nearly 150 company-owned restaurants in Texas, primarily in major cities, and a handful in New Mexico are owned by a franchisee. Yadav Enterprises said last year its goal is to open more than 1,000 locations by 2033, an increase of more than 500%. A spokesperson for the company did not immediately respond to an inquiry Thursday morning about fees and requirements for franchisees.

‘There were a lot of losers’: An heir’s Taco Cabana fortune allegedly squandered But problems quickly cropped up. The company sought to open restaurants in Colorado, Georgia, Indiana and Ohio but franchisees sometimes didn’t use fresh ingredients in line with the chain’s business model and the new locations struggled. A second stock offering in 1993 floundered and Stehling was ousted as chairman the next year amid a clash with the CEO.
