The bar, which opened in 2022, announced on Instagram that it won't remain open after Sept. 28.
La Ruina , an oasis-inspired cocktail bar in downtown San Antonio , is closing after two years in business. The bar announced its impending closure in an Instagram post Friday that included video of fun times spent at La Ruina and the work that went into renovating the building at 410 Austin St. 'It's with great sadness we announce our FINAL DAY OF SERVICE as La Ruina , this Saturday, September 28th,' staff wrote in the sentimental post, calling the business a 'labor of love.
Opened in September 2022 by Olaf Harmel and Gerry Shirley — founders of The Modernist on East Grayson Street — the tropical-themed spot specialized in serving largely rum- and agave-based craft cocktails. Harmel and Shirley purchased and began renovating La Ruina's building in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
