It’s at least the second data breach at CentroMed in the past year. In August, the health-care provide disclosed a cyberattack that affected 350,000 people.

Personal information of current and former patients of San Antonio -based CentroMed was accessed and potentially stolen by hackers in late April. CentroMed didn’t disclose how many patients’ data was compromised but said names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, financial account information, medical records numbers, health insurance information, diagnosis and treatment information and claims data may have been involved.

CentroMed data breach affected 350,000 people, San Antonio health care provider tells state AG “Upon learning of this, immediately took steps to secure its systems and launched an investigation,” it said Friday in a statement. “The investigation determined that an unauthorized party accessed some of its systems on or about April 30.” It’s at least the second data breach at CentroMed in the past year.

Cyberattack on Methodist parent HCA Healthcare is latest major example of increasingly costly trend Cybersecurity experts say ransomware attacks have increased substantially in recent years, especially in the health care sector. In July, a cyberattack led to nearly 1 million patient data records stolen from Methodist Healthcare in San Antonio being published on the internet. It was unknown if hackers are seeking a ransom from CentroMed to secure its patients’ information.
