While this heatwave might be perfect for a day by the pool, it spells trouble for your tires and vehicles if you're not cautious. Outside our station, we measured asphalt temperatures reaching close to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
Chad Miller, owner of an auto repair business on the northwest side of town, off of DeZavala, has witnessed the impact of the scorching Texas heat firsthand. Although it's early in the season, Miller anticipates a surge in tire replacement calls as tire pressure levels, measured in pounds per square inch , rise with the increasing temperatures.
According to TxDOT, the heat on roadways can weaken passenger vehicle tires. Both TxDOT and Miller advise drivers to routinely check their tire pressure throughout the summer to mitigate risks.
