From the get-go, local law enforcement was keeping tabs on the husband of the missing woman.
During the murder trial of Air Force Reserve Maj. Andre McDonald, Bexar County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigator Alma Barbosa holds a hammer introduced as evidence by prosecution in Bexar County 399th District Court, Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023. McDonald in on trial for the 2019 murder of his wife and San Antonio businesswoman, Andreen McDonald. She went missing on March 1, 2019, and her body was found in July of the same year.
McDonald was initially charged with tampering with evidence, based on investigators’ belief that he tried to burn receipts showing hardware store purchases of a shovel, ax, hatchet and gas cans. McDonald was rearrested and charged with murder four months later, when his wife’s burned remains were found in northern Bexar County.with testimony that he admitted to Andreen McDonald’s mother and sister last week that he had killed her during a fight.
Another sheriff’s investigator, Shawn Tolberson, testified he followed Andre McDonald to the gun store on San Pedro Avenue as supervisor of a four-member surveillance team that had begun watching him the night after his wife was reported missing.Tolberson said such teams follow people deemed “high risk, or suspects where there is a known investigation.”
On March 2, entered the gun shop after McDonald and saw him at a rear counter. Jurors watched video from the store showing McDonald talking to a salesman, looking at weapons, and filling out paperwork.
