Officials gathered recently to celebrate the San Antonio Medical Foundation's anniversary, releasing a 382-page chronicle of the its efforts to transform a former dairy farm into a health care district now known as the South Texas Medical Center.
In addition, UT Health San Antonio is today a campus of six schools, including the Dental School and School of Nursing, with a workforce of 7,200 providing clinical care in more than 2 million patient visits a year. More than 41,000 students have graduated from its programs.
The foundation is led by President Jim Reed, Director Pam Leissner and a board of trustees directed by Chair Stephanie Chandler, partner in the law firm Jackson Walker. Last year, the foundation used that money to hand out over $1 million in grants and is on track to do the same this year. The awards help to get projects off the ground and ready for greater funding from the government through the National Institutes of Health.
