SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio man was sentenced Monday to 35 years in prison for fatally stabbing his mother in 2018., 54-year-old Leticia Castro Barnett. When police arrived at their Northwest Side home on May 24, 2018, they found Barnett with multiple stab wounds to the face and neck. She was pronounced dead at the scene.Castro initially said that he attacked his mother because she had sexually abused him as a child, though authorities later determined that no such abuse occurred, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office said.
“This defendant took his mother from their family, leaving his sister and stepfather without the woman they loved,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said in a statement. “The path to justice for this family has been long and challenging, but now that this defendant has been sentenced, I hope they can continue to celebrate Mrs. Barnett’s life.”
