Artwork by Cristina Sosa Noriega, which will be unveiled May 15 on Main Plaza, depicts notable Scouts from South Texas.

Luz Fonseca is a big fan of Girl Scouts. “I like that we get to go outside, do activities, you get to sell Girl Scout cookies, I get to be top seller, and I get to do it with my sister,” said Luz, a top cookie saleswoman in her troop and a second-grader at Las Palmas Leadership School for Girls. Her parents are big fans of what Girl Scouts have done for her. “It brought her out of her shell,” said dad Jason Fonseca . “She was able make more friends;, she was more talkative to the different girls.

The sash she wears includes the Bronze Cross, which she was awarded posthumously for her attempt to call 911 when the shooting began. Noriega also painted a mural of Amerie in Uvalde and advocated for her to be included here. The artist, who got involved with Girl Scouts through her two daughters, offered to create the mural as soon as she heard the council wanted one.
