Last Saturday SAFC settled for a 1-1 draw with Phoenix Rising FC at Toyota Field despite outshooting their visitors 19-3. On Wednesday night San Antonio played its second game in the US Open Cup when it traveled to Tennessee to take on MLS-side Nashville SC in the tournament’s third round. Nashville knocked San Antonio out of the US Open Cup with a 1–0 win after scoring the only goal of the game in the 71st minute. "I’m incredibly proud of the team, and support staff. We went toe to toe with one of the best MLS teams. Our guys performed fantastically, unfortunate to give up that one goal. More shots than the opponent, in their house,” San Antonio FC coach Alen Marcina said. “So I think if people don’t know who SAFC is, I think if they watched that game they’re well aware that we’re a great team with great players and we’re gonna make some noise this year.” There were bright spots for SAFC in the loss in Nashville. Defender Carter Manley played in his first game of the season after missing the first seven games of the season with a lower body injury. Wednesday also saw the return of a key piece from last year’s championship team as forward Sam Adineran played in his first game since coming to San Antonio on loan from St. Louis "I felt really good, it felt good to be back, back with some of the same guys as last year,” Adineran said. “I really enjoyed being able to help out the team in any way possible. Sad we couldn’t get the win, but we move on to Saturday against Las Vegas.” Now just 72 hours after the loss in Nashville, San Antonio FC will be back at Toyota Field in front of their own fans, facing a Las Vegas team still looking for its first win of the season in USL play.
