The Alamo City got props for its food, art, sports and annual Fiesta, but it still couldn't beat Austin.
San Antonio is the second largest city in Texas , but size isn't the only thing that matters on a ranking of the best places to live in the Lone Star State. A handful of border towns made the list, outranking big cities Dallas and Houston . The Alamo City clocks in at No. 6 on the 10 Best Places to Live in Texas list for 2024-25 by U.S. News and World Report. ' San Antonio is as comfortable as an old pair of jeans,' the ranking says.
Suzanne Simpson’s disappearance, 1-year-old mauled by pit bulls topped this week’s news Just 80 miles north on Interstate 35, Austin took the top spot of best Texas places to live, and it came in ninth in the country on the 150 Best Places to Live list. The next Texas city on the nationwide ranking was McAllen at No. 48. San Antonio did beat Austin on affordability. From Austin's 6.3 'Value' score, the next four spots on the list all have 7 or higher. San Antonio clocks in at 6.8.
