SAN ANTONIO - A day after flames ripped through a two-story home in a neighborhood just north of downtown, a couple is counting their blessings while mourning the loss of their beloved pet chihuahua. Now, as the community rallies around them in support, they're sharing details about the harrowing moments when the fire broke out and the rush to get everyone out safely.

The fire started around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday inside their house in the heart of the Monte Vista Historic District.Todd wrote on a GoFundMe page It took fire crews about an hour to put out the flames, which they contained to Todd and Lee’s home and their neighbor's house on the left side. The neighbor's home sustained significant fire damage to the attic as well as water damage throughout the house."Todd got his mom out, thank God, and tried to go back in and get our dog, but he couldn't get to her," Marshall explained, holding back tears thinking about their chihuahua Rosie."We don't know how she even got out of her room, because she suffers from dementia and has a hard time remembering where the doorways are to begin with," Marshall said.
