Rick Edward has been helping children and teens cope with their mental health problems at the Clarity Child Guidance Center since 1976.
Why was a snowman standing amid a pile of carrots? Because he was trying to pick his nose. Rick Edwards is someone who understands the value of a good “dad joke.” And that knee-slapper is one of his favorites. As a licensed counselor and program director at the Clarity Child Guidance Center , a nonprofit that offers mental health treatment for youth between ages 3 and 17, he likes to share “dad jokes” with his patients and staff to lighten their days.
“The distinction that we make here at Clarity is it’s not what is wrong with you, but what happened with you. If you can start a conversation with that question, then you have a way to say, ‘Look, I’m interested in what’s going on with you and anything that you bring to the table. We may not always have the answer just yet, but I want you to know that there’s an adult in your life that is interested.
