On Friday, just an hour before the deadline to declare his candidacy, District 9 Councilman John Courage declared his candidacy for San Antonio's mayor, joining a packed race of 27 candidates. He had previously announced, but then retracted his candidacy, saying that he would not be seeking election as mayor due to health concerns and the switch from two to four-year mayoral terms.
Friday morning, his campaign's X account sprang back to life after months spent dormant, tweeting "Deal me back in!"Courage's campaign said that one of the key reasons for his return was due to "out of town $$$" attempting to "buy their way into your city hall," allegedly out-of-state investments that may have an impact on San Antonio's vote.
Courge's return has brought criticism from other candidates in the race, questioning his motivations for re-joining the race and his commitment to serving the full four-year term.
