A San Antonio cheerleading coach appeared in court Thursday morning to accept punishment — though not guilt — in the sexual assault of a former student.

She said Kotara had been her gymnastics and cheer coach since she was 10.
The girl told police that the assaults started when she was 16 and became a “regular occurrence.” During one assault, she was supposed to help Kotara with a lock-in at the gym for younger students, but instead she was taken to a local hotel and given alcohol after being asked to run an errand with the coach.
In another instance described in Kotara’s arrest affidavit, he asked the victim to babysit his children while he was at work, but instead the two had sex while Kotara’s children played nearby.During the investigation, another coach from the gym told police that he witnessed the girl sitting in a bra and shorts on Kotara’s lap while Kotara was naked in his office.
